Abstract
The democratic transformation that took place in Iraq after 2003 came mainly as a result of external intervention represented by the American military intervention to change the political system. Although there is an actual need for this transformation after a one-party rule, its success is linked to several conditions, including the presence of real political development that creates the atmosphere The Iraqi citizen has the right to actively participate in political activity, and to establish a democratic political system that adopts party pluralism and elections as a peaceful means of transferring power, with the people choosing their representatives and the parties that represent them in the political process.
Therefore, our research deals with an analytical study of the political party laws that were issued after the change in 2003, with a historical overview of the party laws and the nature of political parties in the period preceding the change, starting with the founding of the Iraqi state in 1921.
