Abstract
The purpose of this research study is to determine the impact of software platforms such as social media platforms on students: a descriptive study of high school students. A survey was designed to assess the impact of social media platforms on students. The defined variables were age, gender, education, social influence, future academic performance, and positive and negative aspects associated with those platforms. 200 questionnaires were randomly distributed to students in some high schools. 190 (95%) of the responses were collected and analyzed for the study. The results revealed that the majority of respondents were females 122 (61%) while 68 (34%) were males. It was also found that the majority of students, 171 (85.5%), had a Facebook account and a maximum of 190 (100%) students used social media platforms to communicate with friends. Social media platforms provide a means to transform negative and boring traditional classroom settings into an interactive space that encourages students to engage in the learning process and achieve academic balance through collaboration, contemplation, dialogue, discussion, and acceptance of opinions. In recent years, there has been an increase in the use of social media platforms in high schools, universities, institutes, and various types of educational institutions due to their active role in supporting communication between students' ideas and aspirations. These platforms have provided many tools for learners and researchers through which they can convey their ideas and opinions and exchange and share knowledge among individuals and groups online.
