Abstract
Political parties in democratic regimes have important and several roles , Parties form the essence of the democratic political regime, they put electoral programs and stand for elections and set the general policies for the state based on their party programs. in this research we worked on statement of iraqi parties role in a significant issue belongs to the national state identity and necessity of protecting and strengthening and defending it ,and putting the national identity in priorities of political parties programs. while we discussed the most important pillars of the national identity in Iraq , but we haven't missed the statement of the most important determinants and obsticals that stand against the national identity which is inclusive and expressive of Sub-identities and the most notable is sectarianism and ethnic fighting and spreading factional and unreasonable discourse at the cost of national discourse , and the absence of justice in distribution of tasks and charges and hold the public office and important positions in the state, and the weakness of the law and domination of tribalism and clan among Iraqis. It's a pity that iraqi parties didn't exercise the positive role in this matter, on the contrary , parties enhanced Sub-identities, sectarianism and ethnicity through their conferences , electoral programs and media machines . programs of political parties were limited to certain categories of society and focused on sect, clan and region .
