Abstract
This study examines the impact of global warming and rising temperatures on the escalation of desertification in Iraq, along with the environmental, economic, and social challenges resulting from this phenomenon. The rise in temperatures leads to the degradation of agricultural lands and an increase in desertification levels in arid and semi-arid regions, posing significant challenges to the environment and sustainability in Iraq.
The research explores the effects of desertification on the environment, including the loss of fertile soil and its negative impact on local plants and animals, with a specific focus on its adverse effects on the agricultural sector and food security. Additionally, the study addresses its impact on local communities, where inhabitants face challenges in accessing water and food, thereby affecting their quality of life.
Drawing upon a comprehensive review of available literature and field data, the study provides a detailed analysis of current and anticipated future impacts. The research also offers recommendations to address these challenges, emphasizing the development of effective environmental policies and the promotion of community awareness. The goal of the research is to highlight the importance of taking effective measures to preserve the environment and enhance sustainability in Iraq amid the growing challenges associated with climate change.
