Abstract
Formal reduction is considered one of the effective methods in the visual arts, as it works to simplify and reduce the shapes in the artistic formal composition while the artist retains the essence of the subject. The current research is a descriptive study that deals with a new method in teaching the representations of the art education department in oil painting through formal reduction, as the researcher assumed that this method has an effect in developing their skill in using this material, which students often complain about, which gives the current study importance. The research includes four chapters as follows: Chapter One: It is concerned with presenting the research methodology, as it includes: First: The research problem: Which is represented by answering the following question: Does formal reduction have representations in the products of students of the Department of Art Education in oil painting? Second: The aim of the research: The current research aims to identify the representations of formal reduction in the products of students of the Department of Art Education in oil painting. Third: The limits of the research: Objectivity: Formal reduction -Abstract painting, Material limits: Products of third-stage students, Temporal: Academic year (2024-2025 AD), Spatial: Iraq - University of Baghdad - College of Fine Arts - Department of Art Education. Fourth: Defining terms: The researcher will define the terms included in the title of her current research, and these terms are: (representations - formal reduction)
As for the second chapter of the theoretical framework, it includes two topics, the first topic: Formal reduction, its concept, its importance, and the second topic: Representations of reduction in the works of students of the Department of Art Education In Abstract painting.
As for the third chapter, the research procedures, it included the research methodology, the community, the sample, and the sample analysis tool. As for the fourth chapter, the researcher devoted it to presenting and discussing the research results, as well as the conclusions she reached, recommendations, and suggestions.
